Re Bill -

Is that an excuse for thier gross error - drugs?

Can the same be said for US troops on the ground?... or do they have a different excuse?

The RAF - joint coalition partner - has strict rules on stimulants:

"RAF aircrew don't take amphetamines under any circumstances" a spokesperson told Channel 4 News.

A QUOTE from the link Bill provided. Thanks Bill

I can only find instances of US troops firing upon other allied forces and i went through pages of websites, i think a big part of this problem is that many of the US pilots are given an amphetamines called Dexedrine which is closely related to the highly dangerous street drug methamphetamine to take when on missions. If you type go pills into your search engine their is lots of info on it.

It was not an excuse for what they did, i listened to the transcript and i believe their ground crew along with the two pilots were guilty of a gross misconduct and it annoyed me that the pilots first thought was for themselves and the threat of jail they faced but the blame has to go higher as well if their military top brass is sanctioning them being high on drugs in these situations.
Also the last few lines of the article stating that during the recent conflict some British commanders would joke - away from the cameras - that they weren't expecting much opposition from the Iraqi's, it was the Americans they were worried about speaks volumes when you see this video.

not sure. dont overanalyize this though. every war in history has seen friendly fire. in WWII, thousands died of friendly fire. the only reason for the media criticism of the recent friendly fires is the overall disapproval for the war. its a political tool
