I'm a 24 year old female, my arms and legs fall asleep very quickly, sometimes I wake up with my arm completely numb (very scary!). What could be the cause of this, and what can I do about it?

nothing women have proportionally lower blood pressures and less blood than men, esp. if you are a small woman, best bet is get plenty of liquids and get used to it, i get the numb thing on the arm too, youll learn eventually how to sleep at an angle that doenst make your arm fall to sleep. sorry

You should first look at your mattress. It may be causing pressure points which lead to your lack of circulation. Try buying a foam topper preferably something called Memory Foam. See if that helps. If not look at buying a soft Euro or Pillow top Mattress. Second go to your Doctor and have your Iron levels checked out. In terms of supplements you can take Vitamin B12 and Iron supplements this will help with boosting your circulation. A Doctor may prescribe blood thinner which is unnecessary. Diet and exercise may also be a factor.

If you are experiencing numbness/tingling in all four extremities, you've most likely got a compressed nerve. It's most likely located around your thoracic spine.

Do you feel any pain or strain in any areas of your back - maybe around your shoulders or your mid to lower back?)

If you think it's necessary, I would make a visit to the doctor. Otherwise, learn some back strengthening exercises and - if possible - go get a massage :)

Poor circulation would cause more symptoms than just numbness/tingling. You would be more apt to feel coldness, have paler skin, get light-headed often/easily, low resting heart rate, and have poor visibility of your veins in addition to what you've described.

You could be sleeping on your arm in such a way that your weight combined with the angle at which your arm is being 'crushed' by your body is cutting off circulation. This is a common occurance.

On the other extreme...blockages in arteries and such can cause poor circulation.

low iron? But, I would get your heart checked. Poor circulation is a heart problem. Go to your doctor and get a cardio exercise stress test done. Also if you are dieting or anorexic, that causes poor circulation and cold feelings.
