you cannot get rid of addictions... you can only manage them.
Join a 12 step group, see a psychiatrist, and take meds.

It's not easy but the most important thing you need to do first is WANT to stop the addiction. Once you admit to yourself you are ready to stop whatever the addiction is, you can do it on your own or get some counseling to help you.

Examine yourself and your past closely. Decide which traits you don't wish to act on. Learn to act/think/feel differently. It's a long process and a 12 step program can definately help. But the rewards are life changing.
