Child support is calculated based on the income of both parents and the amount of time the child spends at each house.

we had to pay a little more than 300 a month for 50/50 custody. Now we have custody and the mother pays 300 a month. But it depends on how much each parent earns-in pa they can take 25% of the net income of the non-custodial parent.

It has nothing to do with the child's age. It's a mathmatical formula that takes the custodial parent's income and the noncustodial parent's income and tries to even them out. Either parent can petition the court to change the amount if financial situations change.

My husband had to pay $491/month during a period when we were separated (back together now though)

I have 2 kids and when I divorced their dad they were 5 & 2. He is a classis underachiever and because he made (and continues to make) less than $1000.00 per month, I get $400.00 per month. That is for both kids. Whcich, from what I hear is nothing. However, he does pay it regurlarly.
From all the info I have taken in over the years it has a lot to do with how much the dad makes to begin with.

I live in Arkansas. The weekly payment for my daughter (who is 6) is $46. It was $62, but after my ex lost his job, the payments were lowered.

Of course it depends on their salary and what state you are in. In Texas it is 20% of the non-custodial parent's salary for one child.
