it is an old country road- there were no kids there at that time- the school sits off the road hundred feet or so- no kids are ever walking to school they are bussed or driven to school. i 37 been driving since 16yrs old and never had any type of driving violation.

cause i was new to the area, and have had a clean driving record for over 20yrs. the judge asked me why i was speeding i didnt give him any excuse i told him the truth there was no excuse. i got a fine of 138 and have to go to traffic school. i must say others with no insurance no registration and no license and has several driving offenses left paying fines of 158. no traffic school. hummmm something is not right-if there were other offenses then penlties should be higher or something more.
thanks for your input........

You'll likely be fined heavily. Ask the judge to allow you to attend defensive driving so it will not show up on your insurance.

First of all, do not even think about saying, "but Your Honor, everyone drives fast on that road"....it will really get the book thrown at you.

I do not know where you reside, laws change from state to state. The only thing you have going for you it is your first offence.

You will probably have to pay a stiff fine of at least $250.00, you may also be required to take a safe driving course. The court could actually suspend your license for a period of time, speeding in a school zone is a real big no-no.

You will also most likely get a big increase on your auto insurance.

I hope that this is a good learning experience for you.

Good luck.

You have a few options:
1. Pay it off.
2. Pay a lawyer, take it to court.
3. Go to court and hope you get a good public defender.

If you take it to court, most of the time but not always, through a plea bargain you can get it lowered to a less serious charge. Especially if it is your first ticket and you have been driving for a few years at least.

I got a speeding ticket by the University Cops for going '41' in a 25. I took it to court and had it lowered to 'brake failure.' Still have to pay something, but, doesn't hurt your record. A lawyer can do a lot to work on this.

It depends on what state you are in. They usually are fairly stiff on school zone violations.

Your best bet is to attend, treat the hearing seriously, eat a little crow and admit your error but stress that it was not done with malicious intent and that you understand the severity of your actions.

Don't try to fight it, you'll only dig yourself a deeper hole. More than likely you will get some sort of leeway from the magistrate/judge/sheriff if you use this approach.

Well if the officer decides not to make an appearance, you will pay over $200 because it was in a school zone. School zones double your fines, typically it would have been about a $100. Good luck.

Don't know where you are from, but here in Ohio that fine may be doubbbbbbled, as it should be. You need to use more caution while driving in a school zone. A school kid walking is no match for your speeding car. I hope that what ever the fine is, you will learn someting form this.

Pray to God that the officer can't get there and doesn't call in to the judge. Be sure he's not there and plead not guilty as humbly as you can. If he's there you better tell the judge that you regret your mistake and are concerned about keeping your record clear of points. Hopefully pay the fine and costs then go forth and speed no more.

You will probably have some VERY high fines...they charge a lot for school zone violations. No jail or anything, but your pocketbook will hurt...if the cop doesn't show up, it will be dismissed though. Don't speed in school zones...it's just not worth it.

Sorry I dont feel sorry for you on this one and neither will a judge doing over 20 mph of the posted speed limit and in a school zone..anything over 20 they can throw you in jail over..,too bad he didnt,so you did get a break there.

It doesn't matter if kids were there unless the sign says on school days and children present. You don't speed period, but in a school zone?? They will probably make an example of you.

You will not get a lesser charge...school zones and construction zones are double the cost of the ticket. The judge won't give at all on this.
