Dolphin.
I feel guided by dolphins a lot, and wolves, but neither has revealed themselves to me to be my guide yet.

I am a Buddhist of the Theravada tradition. I believe in Reincarnation however in Buddhist tradition Rebirth is more common. Reincarnation is very rare and is generally to fulfil a specific need, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Ploenchit Lama and several other ranking Lamas and Teachers are Reincarnations of several orders, in general though Rebirth is more commonly occurring as in general there is unresolved Karma involved in the Live's past which has profound effect on the condition and circumstance of the present Life.

Buddhists would never wish for an animal Rebirth as this only occurs when severe negative Karma is involved and is considered a very negative Rebirth, luckily animal Life is generally more short lived than a human Life however in some cases it is considerably more so.

Buddhists do not follow animal totems or guides.

Peace my friend from a Buddhist.

~~~xians,,,, FYI: I am a "Reincarnationist" (Ri) but am somewhat thrown by your specification of "only". Very few Ri's believe in Transmigration, which is the assertion that Human Beings ri into Animal Forms. The rest of us contend that once a Soul has reached the maturity of Earning Human Experiences then there is no "logical" rationale for reverting to Animal Experiences. This would be akin to a Graduate Student having a Ph.D. in Mathematics then being sent to Elementary School for a Refresher Course in Basic Arithmetic. ~ Methinks I would like to be a fruit eating bird on a pacific island with no humans. ~ I don't have an "animal guide/totem", per se. I refer to it in The AmerIndian context of Power Animal that one discovers on a Vision Quest. It is the Butterfly. Spiritual Symbology of Great Transformation represented in Caterpillar/Chrysalis/Butterfly Evolution. At times this is a 'difficult' Badge to Wear as my facial image is one of Hard Edged Masculinity,,, and I am hetero. In other words, my exterior appears 'rough' but my intellect and sensiblities are not. Most others assume that I have one of the great, stereotypical Macho Animals.
I believe in reincarnation but not transmigration of the soul.
However, if I did pick an animal to come back as; I'd pick a parrot or a viper.
I do not believe that we cross species in reincarnation. We will never be an animal and an animal will never be a human.
I'd be an otter. Have you ever seen how much fun otters have at the zoo? They are always having the most fun. More than mokeys or any other animal. They just play all day.
