He needs to go to the vet. He has an abscess. My cat had one a couple of years ago. The vet will make an incision in the abscess and drain the puss. Then you'll need to put a warm wash cloth on your cat's cheek twice a day for two weeks and also put some anti-biotic cream in the wound after heating it with the cloth. My cat sit still for the warm cloth, I think it was because it felt so much better that way. Your cat needs to go TODAY.

When I was treating a kitten with an absess on his head, the vet told me to was it a lot with a warm soft wet washcloth. Put just a little pressure on it to help get the puss out. Also, I was told to dab it with a cotton ball with peroxide on it 3 times a day to help clear the infection (which is what puss is). You are lucky that it already burst.... I had to burst this one 3 times with a needle! EEWW! Once you think it is healed, you still have to keep an eye on it. It may come back again. Get to the vet as soon as you can and get some antibiotics to give to your cat. This will also help clear the infection. If your cat is around others, specifically playing or fighting, you should keep him away while he is healing. I was told that most of the time absesses come from a cat getting in a fight and getting an infection, possibly from the saliva. Good luck with your cat! I hope he gets better!

You need to get your kitty to the vet. If yours is closed, you need to find an emergency vet. He most likely has an abscess, which is extremely painful for them. If it is oozing already, chances are they don't need to lance it. But he will need antibiotics to fight the infection.

My recommendation - if it is an infection from a cat fight and they want to charge you to sedate him and lance it, say no and just get the antibiotics. The antibiotics will usually get the wound to open up and drain. Just keep it clean and follow the instructions someone else said - put hot compresses on it and that will keep drawing out the infection (aka pus). But he definitely needs a vet.

Once I had to take my cat to a different vet - not my regular - and he wouldn't even touch my cat without wanting to sedate him, charge me over $200 just to lance the wound. I said no.
I have one that has a checkered past of loving to fight and he's had many abscesses, and I've always been able to draw out the infection with antibiotics and a warm compress.

Do NOT put things on it like rubbing alcohol or peroxide. It dries out the skin and doesn't help at all.

Good luck to your little furry friend!

Your cat needs to go to the vet as soon as possible. You should call your vet to see if there's anyone there, leave a message about your cat. Then you need to look up other vets and see if you can find one open. If you can't then your cat can wait until tomorrow (first thing in the morning when the vet opens) but you should get your cat to the vet today. Also see if you can clean out the wound peroxide works wonders.

It sounds like he may have an abscess, possibly from a cat bite. Abscesses commonly burst and drain pus, which sounds like what is happening. They can be very painful, and can become infected, however are easily treated usually with antibiotics and painkillers.

Take him to the vet straight away. And give him some TLC!

Cat has an abscess (large lump full of puss) probably from fighting with another cat.

Best to keep the area clean and open and let it drain out, it will smell horribly - this is normal for this type of wound. It will be v. tender to the touch for the cat, so be gentle.

Mild soap and water is good. Do not use anything that will sting, otherwise you may get scratched.

My neutered cat was fighting with our neighbour's cat whenever he decides to come into our yard and developed two of these. They were just setting territorial boundaries.

A cats' skin is loose, so the infection tends to get very bulbous, but it will burst and drain.

If it doesn't get better in a few days, take him to the vet.

You need to take your cat to the vet. There are many emergency vets that are open every day, 24 hours a day. If you have an outside cat, it may have been bitten by another cat. Cat's saliva is full of bacteria. My parent's cat was bit by another cat around the eye, and the eye had to be removed because it was so infected. Don't wait, find a vet right now.

Your cat has an abscess (could be caused from his or another cat's toenail poking him, etc). They usually look worse than what they are, but you still need to take him to the vet. They will check it out, clean it, and give you antibiotics. You don't want him getting an infection. They should give you oral meds (pill), and probably an ointment to put on the abscess. Make sure you also keep it clean. Good luck.

You need to take the cat to an emergency clinic or any vet that is open, as the cat could develop an infection. There is no avoiding a trip to the vet.
