Is it better to just tell kids "don't do it" and let them learn about it on the streets?

Christians should never have sex.

Not at all! Christians need to be safe when having sex as well. Let's face it, sex is probably the most tempting sin out there for most people, especially hormone-driven teenagers. Christians goof up too. As a Christian, I support sex education that makes it absolutely clear that abstinence is the ONLY 100% effective method of preventing pregnancy and STDs. I also support sex education that lets these already sexually active teenagers know what other alternatives are out there. It seems like the really dumb people are the ones who are the best at having sex (and by that I don't mean their techniques, just their frequency, lol). I want them protected with as much rubber and birth control as possible. I have to teach their kids!

I am Christian and I fully agree with sex education. I received sex education in school and my nieces began sex education in grade 2. (obviously it starts in a very simple manner, telling the proper names of parts and later getting into what the parts do)

I think it is the only responsible thing to do. Knowing all the facts isn't going to make kids suddenly want to have lots of sex. (But if they ever did decide to at least they would be prepared)

The job of schools is to educate, the parents are the ones responsible for making sure the children have learned the morals to make good decisions.

Sex education can't be blamed for stds and pregnancy if it is done properly. I don't see that being Christian means not teaching our children about sex. (they should have all the facts) Also, parents might want to be aware of how and what is being taught so that they can supplement the education at home with whatever they want to add. Knowing the facts doesn't lead to jumping into bed if you have given them a firm ground to stand on. (and in some cases teens will do what they want anyway, I would rather they did it safely)

A good many parents today do not teach morality and obedience to God themsleves, and they bring home men and women in front of their kids, having those people that they are not married to sleep over in their beds with their own kids seeing and knowing what is going on, so how is a child to learn right from worng in that invironment?

All the sex education teachies in school is how to, but not to and why. They do not teach that sex is for marrired couples only. I am a Chrisitan and I am opposed to sex education in school. If the Bible were taught again in school, there would be no need for sex educaion in school, because they would be leaning that sex is for the married couple only!

1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

1 Corinthians 7:2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

If you stayed in God's word, you would not give into the flesh and me unmarried.

Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

It is amazing how many people do just that.
When you let kids learn on the streets sex education can be pretty graphic and drugs will follow not too far behind.

You might as well. I know I didnt learn anything in my sex education class. Nowadays theyre just using it as an opportunity to push gay agenda propaganda.

Parents need to take responsibility for teaching their kids about sex and not let the govt raise their kids. If they want to do anything, the schools should be teaching abstinance and the dangers of STD's.

Yeah, this country is seriously messed-up when it comes to teen sex and pregnancy. Here we are, supposedly the best country on the planet...supposedly...and our teen pregnancy rate is 9X higher than that of the Netherlands, where they take sex education seriously and make contraception available to young people.

They put the emphasis on the pregnancy; not the sex.

And here we are, playing silly "let's pretend this works" stuff like "abstinence programs."

We could be making a real difference in careless, unwanted pregnancies, abortions, and even STDs.

What is it about this picture that some people don't understand?

Sure. Why not. I seriously feel like if "Christians" want to bring their own kids up to be complete and total imbeciles in every area, they can go for it. They just have to do it in "Christian" schools.

Then those schools can be beacons of ignorance and superstition to all the faithful, while the rest of us get on with life. It's only when the "Christians" try to hobble PUBLIC school education that I wax in wrath.

"Abstinence only" programs don't work, either. Remember the study that found that girls who took "virginity pledges" were significantly more likely to engage in premarital oral and anal sex?

Because religion hates and fears sex. It is the second strongest drive in human nature, and it is the one human drive over which it has no control. Those parents railing against comprehensive sex ed for their kids remember all too well what horny little devils they were at that age. They will deny it of course, but they're as human as any of us. What is truly ridiculous about this whole debate is they fail to understand two things: One, that people are going to have sex, regardless of how much Jesus you throw at them. Two, if you give people correct information, including how to avoid pregnancy, you would automatically reduce the occurrence of their other favorite talking point: abortion. Why they fail-- or refuse-- to see the connection is beyond me. Kids need comprehensive, honest, science-based, unbiased and religion-free sex education, taught by biologists and health care professionals, not bible-beating preachers. We need to stop lying to them about condoms. We need to understand sex is going to happen whether we want it to or not. "Waiting until they're ready" is a guaranteed way to become a young grandparent. Most of all, religion needs to grow up and stop behaving like a pack of five-year-olds in the presence of sex and sexuality. Religion also needs to get its mind out of the gutter and stop peeking into the bedrooms of consenting adults.

The only sex education I got from school, was "This is what you can catch from a person with an STD." and then they brought out those battery operated plastic babies for us to carry around so that we'd want to abstain from sex.
All I learned about sex, I learned by staying up late and watching HBO and Cinemax. :)

Christians shouldn't oppose sex education in schools and most don't. What we oppose is the tacet advocation of irresponsibility. Sex education has done nothing to reduce teen pregnancy, or inhibit the spread of sexually-transmitted diseases, or to teach responsibility to children who shouldn't be procreating at their age. The only absolutely certain form of birth control is abstinence. Teach that.
