...and that person was an outspoken atheist or agnostic, would you vote for him or her, assuming the candidate shares most of the rest of your political views?

And by outspoken atheist or agnostic, I mean someone that openly admits to those beliefs, and not necessarily someone who is really militant or adamant about them (though I'm having a hard time picturing a militant agnostic).

If an outspoken atheist or other non-believer were running for an office AND they shared my views on how the country/county/state/city should be run, I would definitely consider voting for them, yes.

But I'm also a realist in that I know there will never be a candidate for ANY office in the US who will be outspoken about their non-beliefs, atheism or agnosticism. They would be destroyed by the competition merely because they are not a believer and most believers see non-believers as unethical and immoral.

Note how many good believers in office these days that have been arrested or kicked out due to cheating, fraud or other unethical or immoral behavior. As long as a human is in office, they will be subject to all of that behavior and more.

I think it would be hard for an atheist or agnostic to share all of my views and not waver because they have no strong foundation on which to base their convictions. They go by what they feel is right and feelings change based on circumstance. So it would be a tough call. I would have to see who they were running against. I can say that if it came down to a professing Christian and an professing atheist, it would not be the deciding factor alone. Lots of people say they are Christians and do things that I ABSOLUTELY do not agree with, our president is one example, so there would be a lot of factors.

I would vote for who ever I think would be better at leading the country. It doesn't matter because they are all corrupt anyways, though.

I would. It'd be a good change.
