I know there are probably other variables involved but is this generally true?

No. Sweat has nothing to do with the healthiness of your workout. You could be doing it totally wrong and still sweat.

It doesnt mean anything about how healthy you are. For example, a lot of men just naturally sweat more than a lot of women (not always, but usually). How hydrated you are also plays a role. What I do think in many cases what it indicates in a workout though, is how intense the workout actually is. An intense workout will generally have a good bit of sweat. Someone riding the exercise bike, reading a magazine and not having any resistance set on the pedals is likely to not break much more than a light sweat, if any, whereas someone running at 7 miles an hour on the treadmill for 45 minutes is likely to work up a decent sweat.

Well yes to a degree...if you dont sweat you have a dehydration problem. If you dont sweat...you need to get your butt off the treadmill and get a BIG drink....if you havent hit the floor from a bad dizzy spell or collapse.

more or less.. It just basically show how high you metabolism rate is. The more you sweat the higher your metabolism rate is.

perspiration is in no way a direct indicator of an increased metabolic rate.
