After searching the net this morning and not finding what I'm looking for, decided to venture over here, see if there is someone who can give me a bonafide answer, not some trivial whoop-de-do answer.

As has been written elsewhere, two things in life are not deniable: Death and Taxes. While Death is true, Taxes is a bit vague, to a point. I'm looking for a listing of incidental taxes paid by anyone/everyone who purchases anything, uses anything, whatever. I'm already aware of income, property, telephone, etc. taxes, but do y'all know you also pay a tax to have your clothes professionally cleaned?

So, what say you? Can anyone give me a brief and to-the-point list of incidental taxes which are "hidden" in the daily goings on in life?

Oh, yeah, one other thing: I'm asking about US taxes, not foreign countries.

Thanks, and I wish for you a great day!

That's a tough one. Those "incidental" taxes actually depend on where you live. I think, though, that what you're asking about is a "Sales and Use Tax." Items taxed can vary from state to state. For example, NH doesn't have a sales tax. It does, however, have a Meals & Rental tax of 8%. In MA, clothing and food are not taxed, but there's also a Meal tax of 5%. Some items of clothing aren't considered clothing for tax purposes.

Some things that are taxed you don't see the tax. Gasoline tax, for example. It's actually included in the price you pay at the pump so you never see it. Federal taxes are handled that way.

You'll never get a brief list of incidental taxes because, depending on where you live, you get taxed for:

what you earn
what you spend
what you own that you bought with money already taxed when you earned it and when you spent it

If you want info from a specific state, get to the Department of Revenue's website for that state and search on Sales Tax, or look for a link for Businesses (rather than Individuals) to see what kinds of taxes they may be responsible for. If your state doesn't have a Department of Revenue, look for a Department of Taxation or Department of the Treasury, or in CA it's the Franchise Tax Board.

Taxes are everywhere and taxes are assessed on the federal, state and local level.

Whether services (dry cleaning) is assessed sales taxes depends on the state. Some states tax services, others don't.

If you were to make a list of every single tax, it would be pretty long and it would also vary from state to state, even city to city.

When you purchase real property, there is a title tax based on the purchase price of the property. When you sign a mortgage (loan to purchase real property), you pay a mortgage tax.

One thing people don't notice is gasoline taxes. Almost half of the cost of a gallon of gasoline is federal taxes. Of course there's sales tax on almost everything you buy, anywhere. And there's property/school/hospital district/municipal utility/etc. taxes that you must pay if you own a home. One of the most insidious is travel taxes - in most cities you will pay a tax of almost 20% when you stay in a hotel or rent a car.

One tax which burns my a&& is Franchise Taxes on your utility or cable bills. This goes to your city or burg and entitles them to a portion of what you pay each month.
At one time these very same (city - burg) people were the ones who regulated utilities to keep them from gouging the every day utility "customer", I believe it is a conflict of interest to have this system.
For a couple of years Arkansas had a 3% surcharge on all income earned in Arkansas. (taxation w/o representation).?!

relies upon on what made you a millionaire in ny and CA. many of the those that made their fortunes in ny and CA favor to be in those states to shop making that type of money. As for Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming nicely those are states no longer common for range of marketplace and business enterprise are they? All of those states have one or 2 major industries and if those industries weaken those states are in huge difficulty. Nevada is on its knees because its vacationer marketplace has suffered fantastically. Florida is putting on as lengthy the retirees can nevertheless get medicare and social safe practices. Washington has aviation and pcs and they are huge funds makers that enable that state now to not ought to lean heavily on its inhabitants. Texas receives a great number of federal help from all those defense force bases and the oil marketplace remains a serious presence. Alaska has a lot less human beings than la County and it has Oil marketplace. The oil organizations change into making a lot funds that Alaskans were getting paid in my view to take the sting off the surpluses. Now if Alaska had 20 million human beings living there like ny i'm no longer so constructive it can make that declare with merely oil and fishing. As for South Dakota... nicely... except some parks, Indian Reservations, and filing the area south of North Dakota it really has no declare to repute. i imagine States don't have any determination yet to develop taxes to proceed to provide amenities like plowing snow off the roads, policing, prisons, and different considered necessary amenities. Tax will boost isn't a leisure attempt as you ought to imagine, and albeit the rich may have adequate money it. i will't sense sorry for a sort ny or California depending CEO making over 100 million money a year jointly with his bonuses. He advantages the most from amenities the authorities gives you. His youthful ones bypass to more effective colleges. The police are extra conscious of him, and his roads are maintained first. i'm from ny and it gives you amenities human beings in South Dakota won't be able to imagine. then again South Dakota isn't seen an section that ought to welcome all and multiple from everywhere. In ny the state thruway equipment can make certain that in case you destroy down you'd be rescued in 2 hours or a lot less. Wyoming, Alaska, and South Dakota won't be able to even make certain that they are going to get well your body.
