Qur'an:4:95 "Not equal are believers who sit home and receive no hurt and those who fight in Allah's Cause with their wealth and lives. Allah has granted a grade higher to those who fight with their possessions and bodies to those who sit home. Those who fight He has distinguished with a special reward."

Interesting in that you do not cite the translation you are quoting. Translations can show a bias in favor of whoever is paying for the translation.

For sake of comparison, here is the same passage in three different translations:

004.095
YUSUFALI: Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) and receive no hurt, and those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah with their goods and their persons. Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home). Unto all (in Faith) Hath Allah promised good: But those who strive and fight Hath He distinguished above those who sit (at home) by a special reward,-
PICKTHAL: Those of the believers who sit still, other than those who have a (disabling) hurt, are not on an equality with those who strive in the way of Allah with their wealth and lives. Allah hath conferred on those who strive with their wealth and lives a rank above the sedentary. Unto each Allah hath promised good, but He hath bestowed on those who strive a great reward above the sedentary;
SHAKIR: The holders back from among the believers, not having any injury, and those who strive hard in Allah's way with their property and their persons are not equal; Allah has made the strivers with their property and their persons to excel the holders back a (high) degree, and to each (class) Allah has promised good; and Allah shall grant to the strivers above the holders back a mighty reward:

I not that even in the Yusuf Ali translation there is are two words in front of "fight"--"strive and". One can strive and fight without being warlike. Many people fight gaining weight. Many people strive and fight to attain a decent education for themselves and their families.

By taking out the words "strive and" in your quotation, I believe you have changed the meaning of the verse. When you wish to quote the Qur'an, please use all the words in the quotation and then cite your source. Thank you.

Well when you will read Only the verse and not the context, you will face such problem.......This verse is given for war times and encouraged those who go out of home to fight for their defence....and have given them prefrence over those who just hide at home and want others to be killed for their safty ! There is nothing strange in it.........tell me when you would be atacked, would you just sit back and let the invader to take your place and abolish your soverenghty or you would go forward and fight ,not letting your enemy to take it?? If you would go for the first option i would feel only "pitty' for you ! and ofcourse who defend thier land are superior than those who don't !!

Man !! go and do something positive instead of showing something which you don't understand at all !

Yes it is peaceful. At least they are not hypocrites.

Because any historian of "NorthEast Africa" knooooooooows that greedy christian europeans nobles and royalty along with the christian church jump started all of this murder and blood shed.

But I equally blame those Arabs and the like for remaining unsophisticated and allowing the barborous european hordes to commit such atrocities against human kind.

With the science of the time the evil crusaders should have been repulsed.

Paraphrasing: "No greater love has a man than this, to lay down his life for another."

Don't know the book, chapter or verse, but this quote is from Jesus.

how about those:

god says in qu'ran:"god doesn't forbid u from showing kindness & dealing juslywith those who havenot fought u about religion & haven't driven u out of ur homes ,god loves just dealers"quran60:8
"...if anyone slew aperson unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the landit would be as if he slew the whole people& if anyone saved a life it would be as if he saved the whole people"quran 5:32.
such is !value of human life that quran equates ! taking of even one life unjustly with killing all ! humanity.
but for wars islam drawn a clear line of distinction between ! combatants & non combatants of ! enemy country ! instruction of propjet muhammed(pbuh) ":don't kill any ld person,any child or any woman,don't kill monks in monasteries ,don't kill ! people who are sitting in places of warship."
prophet mohammed says :show mercy to those on earth and god will show mercy to u.
ans also he told us that:A man walking along a path felt very thirsty. Reaching a well, he descended into it, drank his fill, and came up. Then he saw a dog with its tongue hanging out, trying to lick up mud to quench its thirst. The man said, “This dog is feeling the same thirst that I felt.” So he went down into the well again, filled his shoe with water, and gave the dog a drink. So, God thanked him and forgave his sins.} The Prophet was asked, “Messenger of God, are we rewarded for kindness towards animals?” He said: {There is a reward for kindness to every living animal or human.}

and there are moree , islam is the religion of mercy and peace , it is dreived from the arabic word salam (peace and submit).

that verse is talking for war ethics!! don't get our Quran out of its contexts.

What percentage would you estimate the troops from the US's Millitary fighting in Iraq are christian? What percentage of the US's population supporting their fighting with tax dollars are christian? See a parallel?

Yeah yeah, but there are so many different translations you really shouldn't be so quick to judge.

Forinstance, the whole "30 virgins" thing when you die, could just as easily mean "30 heavenly tasting figs" in a different translation.

As Christians we are not asked to die for Jesus, although many have. Christians are commanded to LIVE for Christ. Which, by the way, is more demanding.
