Chefgrille - $800! WOW I don't even have $800 worth of food in my whole house!!! Good insurance! ha!
Keep your fridge doors closed no matter what!
If you know that food is starting to defrost you can try a cooler with lots of ice OR do like we do - have a bbq with all the neighbors and try to make a good time of it!
Hope your food doesn't defrost - or at least have fun at the BBQ! :)

The foods in your freezer that partially or completely thaw before power is restored may be safely refrozen if they still contain ice crystals or are 5°C or below. You will have to evaluate each item separately. Generally, be very careful with meat and poultry products or any food containing milk, cream, sour cream. When in doubt, throw them out.
In general, refrigerated items should be safe as long as power is out no more than 4 hours. Discard any perishable foods that has an unusual odor, color, or texture, or feels warm to the touch.

Keep the fridge closed. This will work for a one to two day power outage. Buy ice and place meat and things that will spoil quickly in a cooler. The frozen stuff should stay pretty well frozen.

Don't open the doors unless you know exactly what you want to get out. Toss as much stuff as you can in the freezer quickly and don't open the door again. The ambient temperature will keep things cold. Homeowners insurace usually has a clause for losing food due to outages. I think ours is $800 worth of food if it does all spoil.
