swimmers ear is an infection of the outer ear structures. it typically occurs in swimmers, but since the cause of the infection is water trapped in the ear canal, bathing or showering can also cause the infection. when the water is trapped in the ear canal, bacteria that normally is already in the ear canal multiply causing infection and irritation of the ear canal. you can prevent swimmers ear by putting drops in your ear that dry out the moisture after swimming, bathing or showering.

If you have some other means for getting watter in the ear ... and it's causing a problem ...that's what it's called.

Yes it's a fungus. Put a bit of alcohol in them after getting out of water to keep it dry.
