I read an article recently that said if you microwave your sponges for 8 to 12 seconds you kill all foodborne diseases, and other germs. Also bleach Everything. I use clorox bleach in my Kitchen. Good Luck to you. If this isn't what you were asking, take the advice anyway about microwaving your sponges. it really works!

A good question, especially in light of the recent trouble with e.coli.
Inspect the food item and make sure it's not trying to go bad or otherwise dirty. Wash it, or at least rinse it well. Cook it thoroughly, and after you've eaten put the leftovers in the refridgerator.
If you're using an item that has to be served raw, again clean it well and store it in the refridgerator until you're ready for it.
Good luck!
