Hey! My hubby's in the ARMY and he's being Medboarded--but he's still in AIT. They said it's because of something that happened in Basic. His hip clicks when he walks, and causes him a lot of pain. He can't pass his PT test because of the run, and he's been on crutches for MONTHS.

We were wondering if anybody knows what to expect during a medboard. They said it can take 3-9 months, which is kind of a pain when it comes to looking for new jobs (most of them don't like such an open ended timeline for when you can start. ) We would like to be able to get our "new life" going as soon as possible.

They also said he's entitled to benefits because it wasn't pre-existing. But they didn't specify what those benefits were, beyond saying that there would probably be a disability check from the VA and some "other stuff." They hinted that you can rush it through the VA if you go through some secret bribe system? I don't think I agree with that.

If you can help at all, I'd appreciate it.

can't rush it. It will happen in it's own sweet time.

benefits will most likely be a disability rating from the VA. depending on what the precentage is, he could see a monthly check, access to VA medical care and qualify for Vocational training as well as rehab, all at little or no cost to him.

There are two types of discharge in this case.. a medical RETIREMENT and a medical DISCHARGE. Retirement means he also retains acess to MWR facilities as well as the Exchange and Commissary Priviledges. a Discharge doesn't.

The med board is extremely backed up right now because of the war. Those guys who have been injured are taking precedent over you all. I would sit back and enjoy the pay until they come up with something. As far as what you can expect from the VA, I would venture to say you are not looking at getting to much. They base it on a percentage. So say he is 10% disabled what is 10% of what his base pay is. I would not expect anything much more than that. Look at what these soldiers are coming home with and their many problems. One thing that is not going good for you guys is that they have changed there criteria on disabilities these past couple of years based on the war. But bribing people know way!

Hi there is nothing you can do to rush his medboard, he will just have to wait. There is no rushing this process. There are many channels that he will have to go through, so many people will have to view and sign his paperwork. It may seem simple but it takes a while. But don't worry he will get disability for his injuries. I hope everythinng turns out well for you. If you have anymore questions feel free to email me, i just got out the army, so i know what you're going through, but in the meantime try to be paitent. God Bless.
