Extreme temperatures (either cold or hot) will significantly reduce your battery life and in some cases kill them straight away.

Get a fresh set of batteries (if they are disposable) or if they are rechargeable then plug them in for a good charge (>6 hours if possible).

Cold weather shooting is tricky, if you carry your camera with you try to keep it under your coat and near your body. Don't leave it in a car or in any other uninsulated area (porch, back hall, etc.).

Good luck!
