They say "free money" is out there but I sure can't find it! I'm wanting to apply for college for a pre-veterinary course so that I can later go to vet school but I need help. I've applied for FASFA but I didn't get it. My parents make too much but I hardly make anything! Can someone help me? Are there grants for becoming a vet? I regret I didn't DO my best in High School when I could have. (I graduated in 2006 with a 2.89 GPA)

Unfortunately, it will take a little work to find the "free money" as the commercials say for money to attend college. The amount of scholarship money unfortunately decreased with being out of college a year, but there is still a lot of scholarships out there in a variety types. I have mentioned below several free sources that should help in locating scholarships.

First, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies.

Second, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

Go online and apply for every scholoarship you can find. You WILL land at least a couple. There are literally thousands of scholarships out there, and you don't have to have a really high GPA to get them. Also, you may be able to get a scholarship to a college based on your ACT/SAT scores. From what I've experienced, colleges seem to focus more on that than your high school GPA. There is money out there, you just need to do some research to find it. Maybe you could ask your parents to help you out a little bit as well.

Are you only interested in the free money? If you can't get any grants or scholarships there are always loans available. You can get federal loans through your university, PLUS (parents loans for undergraduated students), or private loans. Although it seems impossible their is always a way to get through college.
