Isn't that a very selfish thing to do? I say God bless the world!

And I say just live your lives as everyone should: With respect for others and doing right because it's the right thing to do, not because you're threatened damnation or eternal paradise.

I would agree that it's selfish if the phrase were "God bless only the United States." Asking for God's blessing on one's own country does not necessarily imply that one wishes God to withhold it from other nations.

Well, how do you know that they don't say 'God bless the world' too? I'm sorry, but they say it because they 'believe in God' and are 'praying' for God to 'bless' the U.S. ... and that's not SELFISH at all, because the 'prayer' is ASKING FOR GOD'S HELP, not saying that he 'already had' blessed us. So ... God bless the U.S. and God bless the world.

Isn't England's national anthem "God Bless the Queen"?

I agree with you, though. I think we say, "God bless America" because... we want God's blessings. We aren't saying that we are the only ones who want to be blessed.

If I'm in a room with 3 people, and they all sneeze, I will say, "God bless you" to all of them -- not just one!

I think God "Has left the building", as far as the United (Europian) States are concerned. God does not 'Bless" war mongers, nor support military war-fare. America's national anthem glorifies war, and the government propagates patriotism (blind faith in the leader). People who love war, might as well save thier breath, as far as praying to God for support in it.

I would say fukitol. Take the medicine, don't care. Yup.

Anyhow, I see your point. This isn't a christian nation,so Americans should stop saying it.
