You can try to Re-Install on the original PC and hope it work. If not you will need to run the Gauntlet of the Microbutt. It will be a hassle, but, you will get it straightened out.
What Vista do; When it is installed it run a system analysis on about 7 computer components. This makes a Registration Log with Microbutt and keeps a person from loading on another computer. So, now the first computer in the system, you will not be able to load it on another computer. But, you may be able to re-install on the first with no problem.
I just waiting to see what happens when a person change a Motherboard or Hard Drive. Probably have to go through hell to get the computer re-registered again.
Something you may try to speed up the computer. After Vista is installed (We Hope), you can use a Jump Drive as a virtual ram. It will give a faster access time than a Hard Drive virtual memory. If, in time you need to max out on your System RAM. Vista say 512 MB, but I say 1 GB minimum and actually all you can is better. But, read in the Help section about Virtual Memory, it may explain how to use a jump drive and buy you some time before you need to buy more RAM.

I have no plans at this time to purchase Windows Vista! You have to ugrade your memory and video cards and etc. I prefer to wait about 4 or 5 years before I buy another computer. If you upgrade you'll have more problem than it's worth!

I'm pretty sure that if you try to re-install it on the pc you initially installed it on, you don't have to purchase another key. There is no harm in trying to re-install it.

If you have the CD I would try to reinstall on the first PC. I'm assuming there has been no change in hardware, so Vista should recognize that it is "home."

If you call Microsoft and tell them that you removed it from the one computer and put it on another one - they will give you one. I personally find that Vista runs very slow and it is too demanding on system resources. My system that I test on has 3 GB RAM and it runs slow on there as well.
