I think it would be a very pathetic utopia. People actually can live in peace with countries, religion; and living with a purpose. The point is that to live peacefully we have to tolerate each other, and that is quite difficult to do.
But I think living just for today is just pathetic. I suppose every one has at least a goal or an objetive they want to accomplish.
And having different points of view about a topic, as religion, is not at all an excuse to kill each other. Take as an example this "religion and spirituality" sub-forum. I know that many people in here have different points of view, and they discuss constantly, but that is not leading to a war between persons of different opinions. Rather than that, in here the dialogue is promoted, and everyone can say what they think, even if it´s something like : "God is a nonsense and you are all sukers".
I wouldn´t support religion if doing so meant to kill other people or discrimine them just for their ideas, race or place where they were born.
I just hope that everyone thought like that also....

I agree with Katie for the most part. The Christians who are answering aren't giving the lyrics a proper look. I would imagine that God would have preferred not to have a Hell as well, that He would have preferred we ALL chose to follow Him and choose life. But not all of us do, and as a result, we've got this broken world before us. People fight and kill (in the name of the Lord, no less!) and corruption is everywhere. People actually have the audacity to complain when giving people help others rather than "our own." Our earth is a disgusting one. When I'm not caught up in the filth myself, I realize just how much I can't wait to get out of here. I totally get Lennon's message.

This would be a paradise for all the people. Unfortunately, it is a utopian ideal for which humanity may strive, but most likely will not ever reach. The reality is human beings are, by nature, prone to generating chaos and conflict.

Revelation 21:27 no longer something impure will ever enter it, nor will absolutely everyone who does what's shameful or deceitful, yet in basic terms those whose names are written in the Lamb’s e book of life.

Did John Lennon just reincarnate himself and become incredibly lame? This is a great song but find a way to make everyone come together in your own way. Not by copying other people's work.

To all you Christians out there hammering on the atheists. Lennon wasn't necessarily saying that God shouldn't exist. He was saying imagine that there wasn't a religion to fight about. All you Christians who speak hate against atheists are exactly what John Lennon was writing about.

It would be like spending the whole day with all your best friends, except that you have six billion best friends to spend your entire life with. I think it sounds like a good idea.

Imagine -- John Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

I assume you KNOW he's dead. He died very young. I think God got him because of his anti-religious actions.

Take a look at the rising number of murders, rapes, school shootings, drug use, and all the other "joys" of a society that's increasingly shutting God and religion out of the picture.

I'd say that's your answer.
