Is treating people the way you yourself want to be treated always the right way to act?

Someone asked this before, but the answers were almost all trolls so i am asking again.

Of course...for every rule there is an exception. Especially as the Golden Rule is only a simplification of a higher principle.

From a christianity point of view, it is the most right thing one could do. Give and it will be given. For example, if u as a child, need a bicycle, your child will need one. Its the same principle, if you like others to help you out, then you must also help them out. Bible says, Forgive others that ur sins may be forgiven. What we measure out to others, God will measure out to you. If u r a christian, you can go blindly by this rule, since it is written in the Word. Also, expect that things will not go by what you think. Only u are a christian. Others are not. So they may not give back what you have given them. But again, as a christian, you love others. So no problems, God will help you out.

From a worldly perspective, its the nicest way to live in the world. Think of this, everyone acts with the good motive that they will also act like wise. Eachone helps every other person. Its a kind of mutual agreement wherein everyone looks for the others benefit. So it will be like heaven. So its good either way.

And is there any exceptions? I dont think so. If you live by word or by your values, you dont have to override this golden rule. Its always golden and will never get tarnished. The results are also golden.

If you are honest and not mentally ill, then the Golden Rule is the right way to go. Of course there are people who have warped desires. I suppose those desires would constitute an exception of sorts.

Even in those cases, I suspect how they long to be treated by others isn't so different from the way everyone else longs to be treated by others.

It's a good rule of thumb to live by, I think, as long as you don't take it to the extreme.
Like, if someone was coming at me with a knife - should I think of this and say, "oh, he wants me to come at him with a knife..."
Point is, if the other person isn't living by this rule, how can you usefully apply it, if only to yourself? Since we have no control over other people's actions, we can only use this rule to control ourselves. We cannot turn it around as a rule to be forced upon others or a means of control for other people.
If everyone lived by this rule, do you think there would still be murder? theft? Probably not - it would be a nice Utopian society. But since we don't have the ability to force this rule on everyone, then it can't be infallible - it can't be always right, because you wouldn't be protecting yourself or your family.

There are situations in which following the Golden Rule literally would result in a violation of its spirit. Sadists and masochists are often-used examples. Masochists enjoy pain, so by the Golden Rule they should cause pain to others, as that is what they would desire for themselves. The spirit of the Golden Rule is to treat others with the same kind of respect you would desire for yourself.

This rule has NO exceptions. It's always the best avenue of approach.....always treat others as you, yourself would want to be treated. At the very least you are building Good Karma.

What's a "troll" answer?

Of course there are exceptions, eventhough they are dramatic and rare. On example is a masochist, or someone who enjoys pain. They could logically argue that because they want person X to inflict pain upon them, they could therefor inflict pain on person X. With this, the masochist is defeating the golden rule. Other examples can be seen in rare cases such as this.

There are always exception to the rule.
The truth is the way you want to be treated may not appeal to ever one.

Yes, if you are wacko, and deep down inside would truley like for people to hurt you or murder you, or steal from you... then it is NOT ok for you to do unto others as you would have them do to you.

The golden rule goes along with the other aspects of the bible as well. Put them all together (as God intended) and it gives you the correct guidelines.
