I would rather not have food in my house at all, because I eat and eat and eat. I am not overweight, but I am not even hungry most of the time, I just keep eating! I asked my husband to try and discourage this behavior, but he doesn't want to make me mad by saying "Are you SURE you want to eat that?" Distraction doesn't help, like TV or cleaning. I simply think of food all the time!! I am 5'7 and weigh in the low 120's, and am 34. I know how easy it is to gain weight. Also, eating healty foods, doesn't satisfy my cravings or urges. I have even dragged him out late at night for fast food! Once I get something yummy on my mind, no glass of water can chase away the desire!

You can try an appetite suppressant for after supper if that's the time you crave. It all comes downt to mind over matter. Have a clear picture of yourself and when the cravings hit, just invision the benefits of not caving in to it. I used to have the same problem and tried appetite suppressants too, but after a while I would forget to take them till it was too late, or my husband would bring food home from the resturant or something always seemed to come up. I finally had to just get it straight in my own mind. Convince myself that I was in charge. Good luck.

I do the exact same thing, and I am becoming overweight because of it. It's driving me nuts, the past couple of days when i get a fixation on something I keep telling myself, "it's just a craving, I am not even hungry', but like you said, once the craving is there, I almost always give in to it. I will wake up in the middle of the night from a dead sleep to go eat, usually it has to be cereal or something sweet. I try not to buy sweets at the store, but have a hard time even doing that. I have a friend in Overeaters Anonymous, I think I will actually have to ask him about all this!

I feel your pain. I don't understand it, I can do great all day..start off with a healthy breakfast, have a banana with a spoonful of peanut butter, have a healthy salad for lunch, have an orange and some yogurt for a snack, starving by dinner so I want to eat and then ant night is the WORST! that's when it all happens. I dont' know if i'm not eating enought calories during the day but I dont know what too much is so that's y I try portion control during the day..so i know what you mean and it stinks!

No, I am hungry in the morning. At night I want to sleep! You should try to determine why it's so. It may be emotional: you turn to food for comfort, to feel good about yourself. Maybe something is wrong with your body, you should ask your doctor.
Eating "small portions" would not help. You'll eat a little, then your stomach will be "awaken", and you just eat more.
I would ask a doctor.

I don't know what it is, but I get serious munchies at night. I am currently trying to drop a few pounds, and I'm doing really well. Except at night! I want something sweet, and horribly bad for me! I bought myself a few boxes of 100 calorie snack bars, and they help a bit, but it's still a struggle not to eat the whole box! I know just how ya feel Sweetheart!

I hear you girl! I'm the same age with the same appetite, all you can do is have a big breakfast and lunch, try not to snack and have a light dinner. Exercise is the only way I can control weight gain, if I didn't use an exercise bike i'd be as big as a house!!!!

It depends if your metabolism is fast or slow. If it is fast then most likely you will feel hungry at night. But I do not recommend eating at night before bed because it is not healthy. You can eat small amount of food throughout the day

Eat small but frequent meals during the day and by the time night comes you will find you are full.

You probably have a sugar sensitivity-- you crave food and can't stop yourself from eating.
