If he's acting like normal he's probally fine. Cats do things like that, once my cat jumped up on a hot stove, well more like warm, it wasn't hot enough to burn his paws. He learned his lesson though, never jump on stoves.
The discolored area could just be burnt hair, it should fall right off if you brush your hand against it. I'd trim back the burnt hair and look through the hair to see if the skin blistered or anything. If he was hurt he'd probally be licking the area or laying down somewhere, meowing/crying, acting weird, not wanting to be touched, or hiding.

Sounds like Mr Ewing is OK.... don't worry as long as the cat is acting normally and has no visible burns.... if you get concerned later on you could take him in but I really think he's OK. Unfortunately these types of things happen, I understand as I have 2 kittens (brothers) and they get into everything ..... good luck with the cat!

Talk about a close one! Another 10th of a second and Mr. Ewing would have needed a vet!
Since he doesn't seem to be distressed or in pain, don't worry about it. Though you might want to groom him to help get the burned fur out.
Good luck, and here's hoping it doesn't happen again!

Look really good at the skin under the fur that was singed. If the skin looks okay, he is probably okay. I would definitely keep an eye on it. Sounds like he is probably okay if he is acting okay. Just keep an eye on him. At the very minimum, he may need some pain meds if he acts like it hurts. I do not recommend cutting the hair off. If the burn got it at the roots, it will come off itself. The kitty needs his hair for protection. Once the hair starts to grow at the roots normally, it will probably fall off on it's own.

I personally have 55 cats, all of which live with me in my London manor. My husband Terence, Lord Terence that is, once set my wee Floppsy-Foot on fire for about ten seconds. Floppsy-Foot's fur was discolored as well, but it has been a year since that incident and he is as active as ever. Just yesterday he drug in a dead mouse from the garden just as he loves to do (Even though it scares my wee husband rather horribly). You should not worry about dear Mr. Ewing (odd name, by the way dear). He will be just fine

I would say call up the vet and explain to them what happend and they should be able to tell you what you should look for what you should do or if you should bring him in for a quick check up. In my mind $20-$30 for piece of mind is worth it.
deffinatly check on the breathing probably inhaled a little bit of smoke that could have irritated his lungs. not sure what licking the singed fur would do to him.
ring the vet and they should tell you what you need to do

He sounds like he will be fine. Keep an eye on him thou
if there is any oozing or bleeding, take him to the vet. But it sounds like he just scorched his fur He may have learned his lesson and will never jump up on the stove while you are cooking again.

Since Mr Ewing is behaving normally it doesn't seem as if there was any real damage done. If his skin had been burned you would be able to see any damage. So I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Hey, sounds like he is ok, but if you are worried, just call and ASK to talk to a vet over the phone.
