Don't push him simply because you don't like the "look."
He may not be ready for this step. If you push him too hard, the sippy cup will become a negative thing for him, and he will resist it even more.
Instead, have a favorite drink that he only gets in the sippy cup, like apple juice. Don't get mad at having to help him, he senses this. Make it positive, and remember he is still just a baby and he needs more time than you think to do some things.

Just keep trying, several times a day, he'll get the hang of it soon. You might also try putting something he really likes (juice worked for us) in the sippy cup.
It may take a couple of weeks or months before he gets good at it and you can completely replace the bottles, but I really don't think it's a big deal in the scheme of things if he's not ready to give up the bottle until he's 13 months instead of 12.

I am a mother of 3 small kids. My youngest being 1. My son would do the same thing with his sippy cup. I use the nubby as well. One day, i threw all the bottles away that i had around the house, i only kept one. When that bottle disappeared, I reverted back to the sippy cup. He had no choice. He fiddled with it for a while, but I'd leave it sitting on tables that were his height, and suddenly, he would just pick it up and start drinking from it. I guess it just took awhile for him to get used to it. And i didn't force it.

I would just keep at it..eventually he will get it. Have you tried other kinds of sippy cups? Some kids prefer different ones. My son was the same way and practice is what helped him. Plus I got rid of all the bottles and the sippy cup was all he had..it was hard for him in the beginning but eventually he knew the bottle wasn't coming back and he was stuck with the sippy cup.

I felt like I was going through every sippy cup out there to get my daughter to use them. Then I found that she had the easiest time using the ones with a straw that say on the package 2+ years. She is now almost 16 months and still hasn't figured out any of the ones for 6+ months. Go figure. I guess every kid has their preferences. Maybe you should try the straw sippys :)

I was going to suggest Nuby. They have a 2 or 3-stage nurser system. The bottle comes with 3 different "nipples", one is a mnormal bottle nipple, one is a sippy cup style nipple, and the other is a straw style nipple. There is ones with a bottle, and ones with a sippy cup.
I found this one the best for my daughter... she would just try to chew the hard plastic sippy cup... this one is soft, like a nipple, and it made the transition easier. Oh ya, and they're spill proof too.
Here's a picture...

They should be available at Walmart.

They make sippys thay have a soft rubber top....that looks like the platics ones but feels like a bottle....start with those....he will learn.....and then move to the plastic ones. I finally just took the bottle away from my son.....he just kept waiting because he knew that sooner or later he would get the bottle.....nope....just don't give in....just take away the bottle....he will learn to drink out of a sippy....he just has to realize that the bottle is not coming back.

I watch a 12 month old little girl and she's the same way. she is using the nuby sippys too only she knows how to use them but just wont. she will drink from my son's or her brothers sippy with no prob. but give her her's and she wont have anything to do with it. my son i gave him a sippy at 9 months there was no transition just gave him a sippy and that was that. every child is different but be consistant that's all i can say. maybe you can show him how to drink out of the sippy yourself by drinking out of one so he can see what you're supposed to do. then give him one to try with and see what he does. just a thought but good luck i know its hard with the little girl i watch she's just too stuborn and set in her ways already! haha

Keep at it. Its takes a little practice until they master the art of sippy cup drinking. When my son first started he was only able to drink about half the cup because he wouldn't tilt his head back and liquid wouldn't come out anymore. Also, I weaned him by giving him both the bottle and cup, but I only put juice in the cup and milk or water in the bottle. It made him want to drink out of the cup since it was sweet and tasted better, then as he learned to drink out of it, I put all liquids in in it and cut out the bottle entirely.

when my daughter turned 1 i tried to get her off the bottle, it was not gonna happen...she just wasn't ready to let it go yet it was like a security blanket to her, so we made a game of it we would play hide the yucky bottle she enjoyed that and i would tell her during the day ya know that we couldn't find the bottle be cause it was hidding so if she wanted to drink she would have to use the cup, at night it was a different story we had to use the bottle for bedtime and naptime. we did this for a few weeks, we decided to go talk to the pediatrician, we explained to him what was going on and he said it sounded like we were doing everytrhing right to keep trying she heard all of this when we left she started screaming and crying for a cup and every since she has been on a cup..so just praise the child when he uses the cup he will get used to it... good luck ....it takes time
