My water gets filtered through the softener with rust inhibitor salt, but I still have a problem with orangy hair that gets very dry.

Go to a beauty supply store and get "Iron-Away" by Malibu 2000, it's a shampoo additive that is effective in removing the iron from your hair. Also, if you get chlorine green hair, there's a swimmer's shampoo from the same brand that you can buy.

I am a Stylist... Listen to me! :D

I am gonna break this down for you! The reason that you have Orange Hair is because your Stlist did not allow the Bleach (De-Color) to Sit on your hair long enough! A Bleach Mix is Often BLUE and when they put it on the hair- it will "look" done- and more often than not they needed to allow the bleach to sit about 5 mins longer.

Hair Goes through stages:
1 through 10
1- Black &
8-Orange
9- Yellow
10- Pale Yellow

So your Stylist left your hair in Stage/ Level 8 and just needed to sit on it for a Bit longer!

Now to Tackle why your hair is Getting Dry: You just had Bleach on your hair.. which is VERY Drying! & you need to use a GOOD Conditioner & Protein Treatment!

Get yourself a Violet Shampoo & Shampoo with that!! G'Luck!

Check your water heater. It might be getting ready to break down. My sheets started getting rusty when I washed them just before I had to get a new water heater.
For your hair, you can try the shampoo that is made for blonds or to get the rust out maybe try the swimmers shampoo made to get the green out. It is worth a shot.

I have the EXACT same problem...please be careful what you use on your hair...if yours is highlighted, like mine, some products can do more damage than good...either ask your hairdresser what they would recommend (if your area is like mine, they see a LOT of women like us every day)..or use bottled water...(which gets really expensive)....short of that, as I far as I have found, there's not much else....

Go to your salon and get a treatment..(some places call it a Malibu treatment) Most places have some sort of service just for that reason...
