This is pretty common. If we shop on the weekend when we are nice and rested it's easy to get ambitious and over plan. (Happens sometimes to me, too -- and I LOVE to cook). Then the time comes to actually make dinner after a long workday and other stresses, and all you want is take-out. You could stock up on non-perishables like canned/jarred sauces, veggies, dried pasta & rice; freeze any meat you buy, taking out one package in the morning to thaw in fridge; and get a bags of potatoes and onions and salad greens which you can use everyday. Broiled chicken, baked potato, canned peas and a salad, for example. You need to simplify. If you find a fancy recipe you'd really like to try, reserve it for 1 night and keep the rest of the week easier.

I do it too! What I've started doing is buying food for only 2 or 3 meals and not 5 or 7. That way, it gets used (usually). Also--I make a lot of stuff with canned or frozen items that will keep. If I buy a chicken to roast, I go ahead and freeze it until I know I'm going to cook it the next day--only then do I take it out to thaw.
Tell you hubby you are perfectly normal! And tell him, if he thinks he can do better--he can shop and cook for a month and see how it goes. Good luck!

That's me! I can't do those meals for a week planners. It's whatever I feel like making on any given day. And most of the time there's leftovers anyway. I only go to the store every 2-3 days to pick up just a few things and always have a list so I don't get distracted by cookies.

Hmmn, it's easy to do. I tend to freeze stuff though, especially if things like meat and fish are on offer. Why don't you make things like casseroles and pasta sauces at the beginning of the week and then freeze them? Then you can defrost and use whatever you fancy when you fancy. And you'll know there aren't any colourings or additives in there as you made it your self. :)

We buy once a month, and put stuff in the freezer. That way, we can have a choice of things for dinner.
Also, we buy meats that we can prepare different ways, so it doesn't have to be one certain thing. If I have hamburger in the freezer, there's about 25 things I can make with that.

I'm really bad about eating all of my fruit in time. I've thrown away lots of it!! * sob-sob* Try cooking as much of it as you can right after you buy it. Most meals will keep well for a week, when frozen.

Nope. I'm on a budget and could never waste food like that. Half of the world can't get enough to eat, and you throw away what you just BOUGHT?

I like to plan in advance, but throwing food away is a waste. try making another, simpler meal from the ingredients.
