Yes, a clear coat will protect it and give you a lasting finish. We have been in the door business for thirty years and sell and finish interior and exterior doors. We have always used Minwax products. They even have a stain with a clear poly coat mixed in that would be fine for interior doors but not exterior. If you ever have to finish exterior doors always use Spar Urethane which is like a marine finish and has UV protectors built into it. Polyurethane is only good for interior use.

Yes, clear coat it after staining to protect the finish. If you clear coat first the stain may not adhere.

The clear coat protects the color from fade or damage of the stained wood. DO AT LEAST 2 COATS.

Always. Same with any interior trim which is stained. Think of it as a hardwood floor, we always add stain then the finish coats.

Yes i do it gives a lovely finish to it and it seals the stain it makes it much easier to get marks off the wood

Yes...the bare wood will get dirty easily if you dont
Just follow the instructions on the can, and you will be ok
