I don't have a major pitted nails. I don't have psoriasis kind of nails. I feel embarrassed in public places like in buses, trains to show off my nails.I always try to cover up my nails, by wearing gloves or with a newspaper.

Pitted nails:
This is a symptom of poor nutrition or it can indicate psoriasis. Smokers often have
pitted nails. Eat more vegetables and see your doctor.

Warm a cup of whole milk in the microwave until warm but comfortable to the
touch (about 30 sec). Soak your hands for five minutes to strengthen nails and
hydrate skin. Milk is loaded with lactic acid, a natural alpha-hydroxy acid that
gently exfoliates dead skin, and its high calcium content will strengthen fragile
nails.

I suffer from pitted nails and cracks, etc... but I have found they get better when you adjust your diet to include more gelatin (Jello) and protein in combination. I know how the embarrasment feels, I usually just say to myself "everyone else has something they're embarrased about, too, and it doesn't make me any less of a person." However, shaking hands with people still becomes a nightmare.

Try eating lots of Gelatin, I've heard it's rich in protein and can really help strengthen nails. You can put it in any food.
