I was thinking about that horrible email that does the rounds, about John Lennon, captain of the Titanic, and the eggs in the trunk of a smashed car. My question is, at what point does it stop being the wrath of God, and start being just another tragedy?

Yeah! That's a good question. So, was God supposedly pissed at John Lennon because he said the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ?

Im not sure how much God actualy plays in normal disasters or disease and death. He shows in the OT he certainly will punish the ungodly. So lets give God credit for everything and know that he is wiser than man and he is God and should be worshiped regardless of the situation.

Oh I can't wait for the answers on this one. I actually responded to someone who posted that as a question on here for us "non-believers".
Not only that you forgot the part about Highway to Hell.. notice that only one of the writers of that song was struck down.. the other two are alive and well.. hmmmm
That car crash? never happened.. no news reports whatsoever of that one.
One of the ones that's posted in that list is about a jamaican writer who happened to be a christian... the idiots who posted it didn't have a clue but blamed her for saying something that they thought was anti-christian.
To me, it is sad that people feel the need to resort to fear-tactics to make one convert to their faith. If that's the kind of God they serve, no thank you.

your initial question made me giggle, and I thought this was going to be just a clever question.

While I don't know the specific email you listed, I'm pretty sure I know the logic that drives it, and it makes me sick.

A couple fo years ago, I saw John Dominic Crossan, a theologian and historical Jesus scholar speak. He said something that has shaped my own understanding of the nature of tragedy and the nature of God" "If God is violent, then to hell with God."

Gotta love that Irish forcefulness.

In other words, if God loves humanity, and God is fair, then it's always tragedy.

This, of course, raises the question of God's omnipotence, but that's too much for me to deal with right now.

God is legally accountable for striking for a period of one jiffy (earth time, not Genesis time) after said striking does complete it's occurrence. After that, all plaintiffs will be summarily ignored.
