It all depends on where in North Carolina you go. NC shares a pretty decent about of border with Georgia. Charlotte is about 4 hours from Atlanta, straight up I-85. But if you are going more due north it takes less time. Murphy, NC (right accross the border from Blue Ridge, GA) is only about 2.5 hours from Atlanta, Of course going to some of the other mountail locations could spell a lot longer. Closest distance from Atlanta is about 2.5-3 hours from Atlanta,

Well, I live up in Habersham county (which is about 70 miles north of Atlanta - straight shot down the interstate) This area is really nice and so is the neighboring counties such as White coutny near Helen. It's safe (as can be expected), you're up at the base of the North Georgia mountains with countryside yet modern conviences. Atlanta is an hours drive away and excellent mountains and cool places like Helen or Tallulah Gorge are only minutes away. I LOVE IT!!@!!!! If you are wanting to rent an apartment then I suggest in Cleveland (White county) - gorgeous place or around Clarkesville or Demorest (both in Habersham) they are GREAT communities. To be honest, to get any closer to Atlanta you are basically on the outskirts (yes, even though it's 50 miles away) and thus you have more population, more traffic, more crime, etc. But if you don't mind it being crowded (and can afford it) Alpharetta, Roswell, Cumming, or Buford are some more upscale (but very crowded) places. I would NOT reccommend south of Atlanta.
