You will get it in a day or two and yes install it right away. All programs work including all XP based software.

Someone gave an answer that XP does not. No, Not true. In fact, you can have dual boot option if you like. Both XP and Vista will coexist.

I have a HP laptop myself that I got last year. I upgraded it to Home Premium last Tuesday - I wasn't eligible for the free upgrade so I just went to Staples for my copy. It should just take a few days for your copy to arrive.

Before installing the software, you'll first want to backup anything that you want to keep. Then I personally would recommend that you install a fresh copy of the software instead of upgrading the software.

The first service pack probably is still several months away yet. A service pack is a grouping of patches and upgrades, and aren't released all that often.

I would wait until the 1st service pack is released because i have heard that most programs that have worked on XP will be obsolete with vista.
