I know this might sound like a stupid question to some ppl but...
Is it really necessary to get a facial every month and up to three days before your wedding date?

I was told that since im getting married in june that i need to start getting facials in March, April, May and then 3 days before my wedding day in June. Almost every bride i know goes crazy getting facials as well but...is this necessary or do brides just do it because thats what everyone does? Does this help the makeup artist or something? What is the real deal or advantage?

My skin is very very sensative and i do break out but i cant use acne scrubs or anything like that because it'll make my skin dry and flaky. Currently i am using St. Ives Apricot scrub for sensative skin but i still break out from time to time. I tried using the regular St. Ives Apricot Scrub but it still made my skin dry and flaky which is why i switched to the Sensative skin one. Am i suppossed to be doing something else as well?

FIRST OF ALL, CONGRATULATIONS!! NO YOU DON'T NEED TO GET FACIALS. ESPECIALLY WITH YOUR SENSITIVE SKIN! IT IS A DISASTER!!- I KNOW- DON'T ASK- JUST DON'T ASK- LOL. AS FAR AS A REMEDY FOR YOUR BREAKOUTS....I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND I HAVE BEEN USING MURAD. IT REALLY WORKS! I HAVE TRIED PRO ACTIVE BUT IT MADE MY SKIN SO DRY, MURAD SEEMS TO BE WORKING NICELY 2MONTHS CLEAR!

I've never heard of this either and I'm in the NYC area.

I wouldnt get a facial 3 days before your wedding even if you have had them before, you never know how your skin is going to react and you dont want trouble on your wedding day from having gotten a facial.

That St Ives isnt very good, you should try the Olay daily face scrub, they even make an everyday exfoliator wash. Remember as you age yor skin changes, and you cant use the stuff you used when you were younger. Olay is for women, Clean and Clear, Oxy Clean and stuff like that is for teenage skin. Also, if you are flaking you need to use a facial cream. I would recomend going to the Prescriptives counter at your local dept store and asking them for help in choosing a cream that wont rritate your skin or cause break outs. You can also try the Clarins counter, they have good stuff for sensitive skin.

Who told you that you HAD to get facials every month? THE SPA???? Gee, I can't imagine why they'd tell you that...Rule number 1 of wedding planning, disregard all advise given you by someone who has some financial gain by your taking their advice, because that's not an unbiased opinion.

Now, if you have problem skin, and are concerned about it, then YES, you probably need to seek treatment, and you probably do need to start now. But I wouldn't go to a spa, I'd see a dermatologist. Your skin sounds like you might have rosaecea as well, which means you DEFINITELY need to see a dermatologist. You may not even need a scrub, that may be doing your skin more damage than good.

This is a good book I've got, I'm giving you the Amazon link to it. http://www.amazon.com/Skin-Type-Solution-Revolutionary-Guide/dp/0553804227/sr=1-1/qid=1170782574/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-1582075-3314360?ie=UTF8&s=books It's Dr. Baumann's book "The Skin Type Solution." She shows you what your skin type is (you HONESTLY fill out a several page, multiple choice questionaire), and how to treat it. It's a great book, and she even covers problem skins. Best thing is, she gives you product recommendations, from the inexpensive stuff you can buy at the drugstore, to the most expensive, designer department store brands. You should get it, read it, and try it out.

Good luck! I hope you have a gorgeous complexion on your wedding day. I'm sure if you start now, you will! Congrats!

That's a little overboard, but I would say that IF you want a facial, you shouldn't do it right before your wedding because your skin may react poorly. So IF you want one, have a "trial run" a month or so before hand.

Facials are very nice, though. DON"T have one the same day of a special event. They smear you up with all sorts of goop that does wonders of you LEAVE IT ON, so schedule a facial when you've got nothing else going on.

If your skin is dry, especially around the eyes, mouth, and corner of your nose, then you are using the wrong cleanser. You don't want to use ANYTHING that foams. NOTHING. They make all sorts of cleansers that don't have soap, so look for one of those, especially in the dry winter months.

I have very sensitive skin as well, and am prone to rosashia (SP?), which is redness in the skin. I've scheduled a facial 1 week before my wedding. Don't go any later then that because 1 week will give your skin enough time to calm down a bit before the wedding.

One thing that you might find to help you is to wash your face, and then spray a hydrodinating spray onto your face, and then put on a mosturizer. This helps to reduce redness, and help to stop the skin from drying out so fast.

If you schedule a facial, tell them that you have sensitive skin, and they will suggest something to help your type of skin. I get my facials done at Dolmor Salon in Simcoe, Ontario, and I absolutely love them. You get pampered, and your skin feels AWSOME afterwards. So try one now to see how you like it, and if you like how it akes your skin feel, and you don't break out. then schedule another 1 week before the wedding.

I've never heard of that!

And I've been married twice, been to a TON of weddings and never once had a facial, or heard of such a silly "tradition" from any of the brides I know.

I think whoever told you that is full of crap.

As for breaking out, you should be aware that as the big day approaches, stress acne might play a role. Maybe you should see a dermatologist rather than getting facials.

If you can, I would recommend going to a dermatologist and investing in products that can help clear up your skin, rather than having facials (a one time visit would probably be around the same cost as 2 facials). You don't need facials before the wedding, and personally, I wouldn't recommend. Something could go horribly wrong and you can have an allergic reaction to their products...and you wouldn't want that to happen 3 days before your wedding...it would not clear up by then.

I've heard of it. I plan on doing the same. I have horrible skin and break out when I'm stresses, from pms or anything really. I don't want to have a big zit pop up on my wedding day so I want to be prepared. If you go to a specialist they can not only give you a facial, but also give you a type of schedule to keep your skin clear and beautiful. My sister did this (she has the same skin problems as I do) and the day of her wedding she looked fantastic. I've never seen her skin look so perfect.

Sometimes those scrubs make your acne worse. Use them VERY sparingly.

If you want to start getting facials to make you feel great, then go ahead. But DON'T get a facial any closer than 2 WEEKS before your wedding. If the facial does cause any flare ups then you have time to get it cleared up before the wedding.
And should you get a REALLY nasty bump or case of acne due to stress, a dermatolgist can inject the bump or give you a shot to help clear things up (temporarily) , pronto.

I was told by my esthetician to not get a facial right before the wedding... she said there was a chance of your skin breaking out or becoming sensitive. She suggested getting one 2-3 weeks before the wedding. I also got one about 2 months before as well so my skin would be semi use to it. The best thing for you to do would be to stick to your normal schedule for cleaning/washing your face. Anything could throw it off and make you break out, especially if you have sensitive skin. Then if you would like to have a facial get one a few weeks before your wedding. Congrats and Good Luck! :)

facials are recomended to make your skin beautiful for your big day. they say to do it more often so you dont have a bad reaction right before your wedding. I would suggest having a facial or two and using a good moistrizer. start washing your face twice a day. in the morning before you put on makeup and when you get home and take your makeup off. clinique hasa great skin care line, as well as arbonne, it cost a little more but worth the money.
