A 21 year year old shares a 10 ftx10 ft bedroom with a 12 year old. The 21 year old sleeps on a twin bed. The 21 year old ofcourse eats atleast 2 meals a day, takes showers every 2 days, uses electricity, and washes his clothes once a week. He also helps the 12 year old with homework, cleans the house, and helps out with dinners, washes dishes, etc. He also has to deal with a drunk alcoholic every other night. How much do you think would be a reasonable price for rent?

He is my boyfriend, but I convinced my parents to adopt him when while we were in highschool because he was a ward of the state. He has been a part of the family for 4 years now.

He is not my brother. I am in no way related to him and I was dating him prior to him being adopted. The only reason my parents did adopt him was because he was abused, was a ward of the state, and has no family. If you think thats an unhealthy situation, then you have issues.

$0.00. The 21 year old is more than earning his keep in doing housework, cooking, doing dishes. The helping w/homework is a bonus. Tutors cost a lot of money, as does household help.

Get the alcoholic some help & leave the 21 year old alone - he sounds like a great 'kid.'

Considering how much that 21 year old does, the living accomadations, and dealing with the drunk, he should be getting paid for his services.

When I was a professional nanny in the early 90's, I got paid 300 bucks a week to take care of 1 baby and nothing else. The family gave me a beautiful bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, all meals, and a car to drive with all gas and insurance paid for. I never did any laundry or cooked, or anything else, except for myself.

There are several very wrong things with this. 1) a 21 yr old should not be sharing a room with a 10 yr old, esp a 10X10. That's tiny. 2) Why are you dating your brother???? 3) He should not be paying rent. He shouldn't even be there. It's not a good situation

If he helps with the homework, cleans the house, helps out with dinners, washes dishes and etc regularly then charge him nothing. When I say regularly I mean at least a couple times a week.

reasonable? depends on what "things" you want in your life.. and if your willing to drive to work,. but the way you worded the question I would assume this is you or your child...

if they are your child.. bring it near the market rate for apt in your area... place the money in a bank account and show them what it is like in the real world..
when the leave.. give them the cash as a start up...

but come on they are sharing a room with a 12 year old.. you cant be to serious

If he has a part-time job and is going to school full-time, then maybe $150-$200. If he's not in school but has a full-time job, then maybe double that amount. He seems to be helping around the house which is good so I wouldn't expect him to pay the bulk of rent....how many other people live in the house?

Depending upon where you live, if this 21 year old were an in-law, I would charge about $1,500 a month.

If it were a relative of mine, then about $300 a month.

You don`t say if he is working or in School. I would calculate how much it would cost him in his own place and expect 1/3 of that price for his rent.

around a 100, since he helps out around the house and does other things.
