photo of leaf: http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/5712/leaftoidta9.jpg

All I know is, this plant is probably common in South East Asia, and may be thought to have medicinal value.

Would like to know genus and species or common names.

Thanks!

From photos I see online, the leaves of Monstera Deliciosa do look similar, except my specimen doesn't have large holes. Thanks Miss Wong.

I don't know abt chimp's contribution, can't find anything that looks alike online.

I tried looking for some kind of online guide to identifying leafs, perhaps via YES-NO questions about the leafs. I couldn't find any page that covers tropical plants.

Actually I don't care about the medicinal bit either. It's just how I came across the leaf, from someone who said that it was *thought* to be medicinal, but nevermind that. I'm interested in identifying it regardless. Sorry, I know it is only part of a leaf, and I don't know what the rest of the plant looked like. A botany-guy once told me that a leaf was the single most useful part for identification purposes, so I thought this might be enough.

What can you experts tell from the lobing, venation, those spots and holes near the main vein?

Can we at least pin down the family?

Anyway thanks all!

It's hard to tell but it could be Monstera Deliciosa, sometimes called Swiss Cheese Plant or Split Leaf Philodendron. I doubt it's medicinal though.

The leaf in the picture is not a complete leaf, and it would be easier to identify if a flower or even if you gave us a clue to how tall it is, or what the main trunk look like.

It doesn't even look medicinal, does it have a faint odor? It looks more like a common house plant and when you claim it is probably common in SE Asia, I would take that "fact" with a grain of salt.

It looks like a common houseplant, that I can't think of the name right now. It is a better decoration than any medicinal purpose anyone could use from it.
