You can like drivers for other makes of cars but you need to find a guy within your favorite make to be your "main driver". I'm a Chevy guy but like and have liked several drivers of Fords and Dodges based on their demeanor, driving style and personalty. But your main guy has to be from whatever make of vehicle that you drive everyday. It is just wrong to see a "Jr." sticker in the back window of a F150 or a Newman license plat frame on an Impala. It gives you more credibility with your buddies and makes the rivalry thing more fun when you get into arguments with other fans of racing.

No way man. Nascars today are about 80-90percent identical. The biggest difference in Nascar, are the sponsors, the body, and the setup. Nascar keeps a close eye on almost everything else... Its kind of like the Car of Tomorrow, the major purpose of this is to make the drivers safer, and provide a more equal playing field on the 1.5 mile tracks, long story short, they are trying to make everything similar so it comes down to driver skill, and not power, and money.
So your loyalties can go outside of Ford, and if you think about it, if they can't expand out of ford, then you are very limited in picking a favorite driver... Ford has like 7 or 8 cars... Chevy has 2 or 3 times as many cars! That is why they are always winning the Manufacturers Championship, they have more chances to win.
So I would not worry about picking Jr, if you are a Ford man, I bet half of the people would not even draw the line between the two to tell you the truth. Just remember that 80-90percent of nascar is all the same, and its heading more and more towards that kind of racing, so just remember you are picking a driver, and not the car he is driving

I have to say it's equal between those two
But of course, whether the cars are good or not have to do with how good the team is, the manufacturer just provides the team with the car.
So now that I think of it, I say neither, it's the TEAM that matters.
Just think about it, you guys know that drivers give credit to their teams when they win(and the sponsors). The team puts the setup on the car, and the crew has to make good pit stops and all that, drivers have lost races because of bad pit stops.
And the loyalty question, it's easier to be loyal to a driver, so stick to that

I have been a Chevy fan all my life, and that will never change. I started with a Chevy driver (Sterling Marlin in the 94 Daytona 500), and switched with him thru driving dodges too (I bought a Dodge while he drove for Ganassi)
So, I would have to say, I'd follow the driver not the car make.
I still hate all the ford teams though.. LOL

Unless you have giant ties to the manufacture (i/e work for them/retired for them or whatnot) than I personally think your loyalties should lie with the driver.
First, the driver drives the car..not the car driving the driver. Second, if you liked Mark Martin for 18 billion years are you going to stop rooting for him b/c he's no longer with Ford.. seems a bit ridiculous.
Like I said if you have strong ties than I could somewhat understand, but really.. let's face it.
People don't root for a certain basketball or football team b/c they use Nike apparel over Reebok or Adidas.. so why pick a driver of Ford/Chevy/Toyota/Dodge.. or whatnot. Makes no sense to me.

I know I don't like Ford, I like Chevy and Dale Jr.
Some people like drivers from different manufacturers. If there a Ford I don't hate them but I don't cheer for them.
The driver is more imprtant.

Driver, since NASCAR uses things that are almost totally the same anyway and pass it off as that manufacturers car.
In driving, I'd never drive a Ford where I can help it. But if Kevin Harvick started driving Fords next year, I'd still root for him.

I am a manufacturer guy. Don't know why, just am. During my early NASCAR years, I was a Ford guy, then Pontiac, and now it is the Chevys. I have no idea what has made me switch.....maybe the drivers.

I say it's equal. I'd be seriously pissed if Jr. went to Ford. I used to be a big Jamie McMurry fan until he went to ford. Kind of funny since he sucks now. What does that tell you about Dodge and Chevy?????
