Hi there...dryer sheets (even unscented) contain ingredients which are toxic to cats, so while grooming themselves it would be ingested. Any veterinarian can confirm this fact if you ring them. Anyhow, consider purchasing a humidifer to help add moisture back into the air.

The other day my sisters' cat hopped on my lap and went to nose touch me -- we both got zapped in the nose!

DO NOT use the dryer sheets; vets have found that those are bad for both cats and dogs. There is a chemical on them that can cause stomach irritation and vomiting. Also it turns out those things are really bad for the environment.

I've found this is a simple solution -- and also helps with winter dander: Take a warm wet wash cloth and run that over kitty (this will prevent an initial shock as well); brush your cat out; put a few drops of tuna oil on its front paws.

Cats often engage in self grooming after brushing -- with a little luck your cat will get some of the oil into its coat and help with the dry skin and static issues.

Just had to say great question... Im about to call my cat (tiger) sparky because he shocks me something severe and is nothing but a ball of static! A dryer sheet works on human hair Im just not sure I would use it on a cat (ex: everytime they clean/lick themselves their obtaining toxins left behind from the dryer sheet... not to mention the perfume may be harsh on animals with sensitive skin)! Good Luck to you :)

I'm triple dosed here in static..3 animals lol Anyways, safest/surest is a humidfier, pan of water on stove, anything to put moisture back in the air.

Darned if I know, I get the same sparky problem. I feel sorry for the puss when I give it a nice petting and zap it's poor ear.
