One other thing to keep in mind is that in Tax Court, it is not a criminal trial, so "innocent until proven guilty" does not apply. The IRS does not have to establish that you are subject to the tax laws of this country. You, as the defendent, has to be able to convince the court that you ARE NOT subject to the tax laws of this country. Also, it is not a jury trial, so you are not trying to convince a jury of your peers, you have to convince a sitting federal judge.

Good luck on convincing the jury that there's no law saying you have to pay taxes.
The fact is, whether or not the laws are being interpreted correctly and whether or not the constitutional amendment allowing an income tax was meant to apply to personal income, the government apply the law to say they can tax whatever they define as your income at whatever rate the most recent vote in congress has set, and the courts have upheld the practice.
We're penalized heavily for not paying taxes to keep us too afraid to not pay taxes.
The most effective way to eliminate taxes would be through electing representatives who vote them down. Unfortunately this would require a majority of voters who think the goodies they get from the government and the satisfaction of "sticking it" to the "rich folks" aren't worth the taxes they're forced to pay.

Try again. There is a law, a couple of them actually, that say we have to pay taxes. There have been plenty of tax protestors who have claimed that there isn't a law. Many of them are now being rewarded with free room and board in government facilities. Once the IRS catches up to them and take them to court, the protestors lose.

Penalized? If you pay a lot in taxes, it must mean you're also making a lot of money.
Taxes pay for a lot of things you may not notice on a daily basis:
public education
public libraries
highways
roads
road signs
law enforcement
fire department
FEMA & homeland security programs
child heathcare programs
salaries of city workers/officials
etc...
Perhaps you're not upset about the amount of taxes you pay, but rather how it is spent. Most people don't give a rat's @$$ about politics, but they should. If you're a citizen, you should always do your citizenly duty and vote!

Taxes are written into the law by the various legislative bodies around the country. They have the authority to make the laws. Therefore there are laws that say we have to pay taxes.

I hear of public figures getting charged with "tax evasion" every year.
Richard Hatch, winner of the first installment of "Survivor", is serving a year in the pen right now because he was found guilty of not paying taxes on his million-dollar pay day. If he's in jail for that, I'd find it hard to believe there's no such law!

No law? Try nearly 100 years since the 16th Amendment was passed. Plus Title 26 of the US Code. And enough Supreme Court rulings to fill a small legal library.
Anyone who tells you there is no law is lying to you. And you're extremely gullible for actually believing them in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Why do people still claim that income taxes are illegal? Try the 16th amendment!
If you don't pay your taxes you are breaking the law.
