Most likely thrush which is easily treated with an anti-fungal oral gel, available over the counter in pharmacies.
My brother has geographic tongue, it's more like large patches of white and the rest of the tongue is the normal red colour, it's usually not small spots.
If the GP says it's a vitamin deficiency then did he/she tell you what vitamin you were deficient in? If they did then maybe you should take a supplement.
Often vitamin B deficiencies cause mouth ulcers and little ulcers on the roof of the mouth or inside cheeks.
Some antibacterial mouthwashes can also help in this, eg Corsodyl, Betadine.

It may be "geographic tongue", irregular greyish-white patches that look like continents on a globe. I think the cause is unknown and it is not serious.

Have another doc look at it if it persists or if it is painful and spreading. An educated guess over the internet is not the same as having a competent doctor examine the lesion.
