can I use a SS# instead of a EIN when reporting payments paid by me on a 1099 misc to the irs?

I do not have an EIN. I am a sole owner of a small plumbing business with no employees. Payments were made to a couple other individuals for work they preformed.

You can but it would be MUCH wiser to get an EIN and use that. Personally I wouldn't want my SSN scattered all over the planet.
