Hi!
Egg nog is a thin custard with heavy cream added.. It should NEVER be made with raw egg since there is danger of contamination (salmonella), and since raw
egg does not taste good. It is just as easy to cook the eggs with sugar over a double boiler, then add milk to thin it ... let it cool down and spike it (or not) with rum, brandy and cognac; or flavor it with vanilla.... and some heavy cream, put it into punch cups, put a dollop of whipped cream on top, then some nutmeg...do not drive at all for some time!!!

I found a recipe for egg nog in an old cookbook published in India ... it was called "Tiger's Milk" (probably by some jolly chap from you know where*) and was sweetened with palm toddy. I don't remember the date of publication. Sorry.

There is a very nice drink that hails from the Spanish corner, called COQUILLA
and is made of sweetened heavy cream and light rum. It is very nice, and side-steps the eggs of egg nog very nicely.
Have some. No driving, ok?

Peace & Love

p.s. I have two apolgies to offer: one is for advising about a drink that contains alcohol .... I am not certain about the advisability of drinking it .... I only know that sometimes it does me a world of good ...... so please on your own advice, only....

* The second apology is due the British for making a snippy reference to them, but I am mad at them because I don't think they ever apologised to India for all the damage they did .... for all the hurt feelings
and for all the heartless cruelty they had in their hearts towards a truly great people.
Since we can't ask Queen Elizabeth I herself, would anyone be willing to admit that there are some fences to be mended here? That would get the ball rolling. Unless we should hold a seance. Do you think that would work?
Why am I saying this? Well, I am just that kind of person, that's all. And, I know that Karma can be lifted.... and until it is lifted, it stays. Who wants to live with a bad Karma? Certainly I don't and I don't think the British do either. One of these days I will tackle American Karma, but not right now because it is almost lunch time.

Milk or cream blended with eggs and spices. It is a traditional holiday beverage throughout most of Europe and the USA. Here is a recipe if you would like to try some:

Basic Eggnog
6 separated eggs
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 quarts thick cream
Dashes of cinnamon or nutmeg

Beat egg yolks and sugar together until they are senseless (or lemon-colored). Set aside while you beat the egg-whites stiff followed by some harshly thrashed cream. Dump all this into the yokes blend well. Then chill. Serve cold.

Egg-flip, Egg-hot, Egg-nog. Drinks composed of warm spiced ale, with sugar, spirit and eggs; or eggs beaten up with wine, sweetened and flavored, etc.

From Buckingham Palace to the White House to New England homes everywhere, toasting the holidays with egg nog is a custom rich in tradition. Historically, egg nog is first mentioned in the early part of the seventeenth century as a beverage used to toast one's health

Eggnog is a creamy - like drink, that has a vanilla flavour to it, and is pretty sick. Overly sweet. And Thick. Spiked Eggnog has alcohol added to it.

It's just milk, raw egg, sugar nicely beaten together and some flavoring if required. Personally I think it is ghastly, but it was generally believed to be a health drink.

I was always told that it was simply eggs and milk whisked up together (Thanks Mum). Learned more when I got to America and tried their delicious spiced egg-nog with LOADS of Bourbon in!
