Do you think it's ok to email my family the news that my husband and I are going to have a baby?

That way everyone gets the message at once, just not sure if it is considered informal.

Thanks for your help.

I live in a different country...not sure if that makes a difference. Probably not.

No. Horrible idea. At least talk to them on the phone. If you have distant relatives that you don't talk to much, that's ok, but your parents or siblings. NO!! They will be very hurt, I'm almost sure of it. If you can visit them and tell them, maybe get them all together at once, or call your parents, then your husband's parents, then all your siblings if you have any. This is much too important to throw into an email.

Congrats!!!
To put it blunt though, I think it is tacky to do it over e-mails. I can understand what you are thinking though - so any so will be mad because I didn't call them first and etc. Since this is such a large part of your life - something very exciting - I think it would be better if you call everyone. Since this is a new life coming into the world, isn't it the same as if you e-mailed everyone telling them that someone died? Kind of get the point? You should be proud momma and tell everyone - more fun that way also!

It is DEFINITELY informal. But it's just fine to announce a pregnancy this way. It is, however NOT okay to announce a baby shower or birth in such an informal manner. Those events require a paper announcement/invitation.

By the way....congratulations on your upcoming birth...and best wishes for a healthy, happy baby!

This day and age, I don't see anything wrong with that. We announced me being pregnant with our second child by posting pictures on our website of our oldest son wearing a shirt saying "I'm Gonna Be a Big Brother". My parents saw it a few hours after it was posted and spread the word...

Oh no, it is much more exciting telling them in person, they'll be happy for you. E- mail really isn't the best way to let the family know you are pregnant. Just give them a simple phone call or visit. You will be appreciated a lot more!~!

I wouldnt consider it informal...
But I would call the immediate family.. grandparents and your siblings... just to make it a little more personal for them.
But Id email my friends, and extended family :)

I think it's more appropriate to call all close family members.
