Would that be possible? I was hit by a drunk driver after prom, my ear was ripped into 2 pieces, so now I have this scar on my ear, I had lasic treatments on it, but that didn't really help to much. I want to get stitches tattooed on the scar kind of as a symbol. But I have heard that you cannot tattoo over scars, and a lot of artists won't tattoo on an ear, let alone a scar on an ear. Does anyone know if that would be possible??

anywhere's theres skin, you can get a tattoo...find a reputable artist and take your idea to him/her...then let the professional tell you whether it's possible. :)

As for not tattooing on scars...that's pish. I've got lots of ink over scars myself! ;)

It isn't a good idea to tattoo over scar tissue because it is unpredictable when it comes to absorbing the ink. The color might blow out and the straight lines you want might start migrating. Generally, a good artist won't attempt it because the likelihood of problems is something they don't want to deal with later on down the road. Experienced tattoo artists can tattoo over scars. It is very difficult, however, so most won't touch it. Your scar has to have healed for at least 1 year. Look to your local tattoo artists and ask around; we found one to tattoo over my sons scars on his arm, but it took some research.

I'm sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you're all well now.

But I do agree with the advice that it's not advisable to tattoo over a scar. The reason being that scar tissues are essentially weaker than normal tissues, hence will break and damage more easily. A tattoo is essentially plunging needles into your skin over the scar...hence a tattoo IS a wound initially that heals in 2-6 weeks. Because a scar is already weakened tissue, there's a high chance that the tissue may not be able to withstand too much needling before it breaks and causes more damage. Also, because the ear is highly innervated by capillaries and important facial nerves, and is so thin, the risk of accidentally hitting them with the tattoo needles is also high. Damaged facial nerves can lead to facial numbness in mild cases, and facial paralysis in more severe cases.

Because of what you've been through, I can understand why you wish to create a tattoo over your scar as a symbolic membrance of your painful ordeal. But the scar just being there is already the greatest symbolic representation of what you'd gone through, isn't it?

it is absolutely possible. i have seen tattoos on ears and also tattoos on scars. but i have never seen a tattoo on an ear scar. HOWEVER i would research the artist. even tho it will be a small tattoo it does take an experienced artist to do a tattoo on a scar. and it will hurt much more on scar tissue. good luck!

my friend had a tattoo on her to cover a scar and since a tatoo basically becomes a scar it kind of covers it well. and also my brother has a tattoo on his ear...so you should be able to but both together.

Sorry about your accident but this is not something that you should get done. If you are really set on getting it done, call a REPUTABLE tatto artist in your area and ask them.
