At most states you can claim anyone you give more than 50% of their support. Remember it must be more than 50%, so don't crush numbers doing creative accounting, second make sure you are the only one claiming them as dependent.

You can claim a parent if:

1. They had less than $3,300 in gross income for the year. (Do NOT include tax-exempt Social Security payments that they received.)

2. You provided more than half of their total support.

3. They do not file a joint return with their spouse unless the only reason for the return was to claim a refund of taxes withheld and each of them had less than $3,300 in gross income.

Note that a parent does NOT need to live in your home to claim them as a dependent.

Yes you can if you meet certain conditions, such as providing more than 50% of their support. Check irs.gov, look under "individual" tab then put in a search for "dependents" and read it carefully.
