I just recently started making pizzas at home. The toppings are great but when the crust comes out it is hard. I have applied oil to the crust before baking, like the instructions said, but it is still not restaurant quality. Any ideas on how to make the crust a little less painful to eat?!?!

Thanks for your answers.

I forgot to add that I was using a ready made crust. I was told to use a Pillsbury canned crust but of course, they were out.

Maybe make the crust a little thicker before baking. Be sure to bake it in a pan, not just on the overn rack. Center rack of the oven.

Either use focaccia bread or buy some pizza dough from a local small pizzeria. Trader Joe's has pizza dough in the refrigerated case by the cheese and deli meats. Focaccia makes a nice soft tasty crust. Put a little cornmeal on the pan, brush a little olive oil on the top of the bread, and top with sauce cheese and whatever toppings. Heat in 350 oven until cheese is melted and bubbly. YUM!

Could you have the temperature turned up a little too high?

Maybe you're cooking them for a little too long? Try keeping an eye on the toppings - if they're bubbling they're cooked.

You could try adding a bit more tomato base, the water in that might help to stop it drying out so quickly?

If you have a bread machine use it. Make the Basic white bread but add 2 tablespoons of Olive oil to the ingredients and set it to the dough setting. Light flour only and roll quickly to maintain the fluffy texture. Good Luck!

Let the pizza dough rise a little.
