I don't know how to spell it, but I had a friend from nicaragua who used the term (not sure the spelling is right) matiposa. The nicaraguan said it was like calling someone gay. My friend from mexico said it simply meant butterfly. So, maybe this can help, kinda off the wall but maybe you can check it out.
