Yes. Everyone should have one on hand. There are many situations where you would not be able to communicate and that card could save your life.

My husband, who's an EMT, has provided a "file of life" for each member of the family. It's a piece of paper that has all pertinant health information, including doctors, health insurance, medications, current diagnosis, special conditions, etc. for each member of the family. They are kept in a container in the freezer and a "star of life" magnet is on the door and on the container to alert the squad where to find it if they come. That way they can just grab it and go and not waste time asking questions.

A wallet card is a good idea, but there are so many problems associated with it. One is it's sheer size. It takes up a full 8.5x11 sheet of paper. A card would be good for general conditions, but not for every bit of information you're talking about. Not to mention, most medics don't have the time or legal rights to go digging through pockets or wallets for personal information. The best thing to do is have a medical ID bracelet or pendant (with the star of life on the front and diagnosis on the back) and a file of life in your house with its location clearly marked. EMT's are allowed to take, look at, or use anything with the star on it. Anything else is a gray area that not many are willing to go into, especially with the new health information act in place.

Good idea, but it just doesn't work well. Blessings

First in USA it should be assured that a patient gets the exact & proper treatment he needs.Let me inform you that 90% of US citizens don't get what is called proper treatment. You people may be nationalist but your govt who claims to be the most scintific democracy in the world is not exactly what they claim. Intoxicating & hard Drug is the greatest problem in USA, Why?Because your govt wants it. Why it is not in china who was called as opium country? Do you have the capacity & will your GOVT will answer if not, ask me at arunpat2002@yahoo.com . In fact the defination of democracy in your constitution has never been defined as in India. When you don't have a doctor or GOVT who intends to help you than how a lifeless health card will help you? Apointment( please check the defination) for a patient? whether he is having no knowledge of severity & in USA no Doctor knows it & shall never know it.Please don't excuse me, I can come to any where on my own cost & explain things I have written.

Nah. People that are in good health may not have anything to really note anyway. And if I have an emergency, I dont care if you can get ahold of my Dr. or not, since Im more worried about getting to the emergency room ASAP.

That would be the ideal but what happens if someone steals your wallet and or you loose your wallet and the person who finds it uses all of this info to get medical treatment in your name. It can take years to get this untangled when that happens.
