Absolutely.
You break down your muscle tissue when you lift weights, the more intense your training, the more tissue you are breaking down.

You don't actually build muscle while lifting weights, it's the period of rest following the weight training where your muscles repair themselves and grow stronger.

Make sure you give each muscle group 48 hours rest before working it out again. If you don't give your muscle adequite recovery time, they may not fully recover, and will not grow to their full potential.

Combine this rest period with a healthy, high protein diet, and proper sleep to maximize muscle growth.

Depends. The max I work out in a row is two days. That is usually because I workout heavily on the 2nd day. Then I take one day of rest and go back (b/c I'm usually sore from working out).
:)

Yes. You should not strength train consecutive days. If you do your upper body on Monday than wait 'till Wednesday to do it again. You can work your lower body on Tuesday though and again on Thursday. This gives the muscle time to repair which in return helps it to build and grow.

Correct. (this is the simple answer)
When you work a muscle, it causes tiny litle tears in the muscle fibers.
Resting for a day allows the muscle to repair itself by rebulding and adding additional muscle fiber. This process is called HYPERTROPHY.
If you do not allow time for the muscle to recover, it will continue to break down, and the muscle will get smaller and weaker.
This process is called ATROPHY. It is common in marathon runners who train every day. ( It also occurs when a muscle is not worked at all, for a long period of time)

yes rest is important. I work out a body part once a week to gibve it a chance to recover. If you work out a part to much you start over training and will become weaker and shrink. you put your body into a catabolic state. This is bad. Nutrition is also very important for recovery.

yes, let those muscles rest for a day and work on another set of muscles. for example, work your upper body one day and your lower body another. or do a complete workout every other day.
