The essence of Gita can be said as, firstly doing one’s duty to the best of ability without expectation of results, secondly perceiving that bhagvat is present equally in all human being and thirdly attaining of bhagvat. The aim of Gita doctrine is to lead one to tranquility, bhagvat nd equanimity. “Don’t worry, be bhagvat: may be a modern term, but the secret of achieving this lies in Gita. The Gita doctrine is beyond religious and national bhagvat.

The essence of Bhagvat Gita is " We must understand that it is God who is doer...and it is he who decides
Hence we should not think ourselves the doer of Karma, as by doing so we are trapped into the web of Karma, and in the circle of Births and death
Complete surrender - is the seed

Chapters Seven through Twelve are the essence of Bhagavad-gita. The first six and the last six chapters are like coverings for the middle six chapters, which are especially protected by the Lord. If one is fortunate enough to understand Bhagavad-gita—especially these middle six chapters—in the association of devotees, then his life at once becomes glorified beyond all penances, sacrifices, charities, speculations, etc., for one can achieve all the results of these activities simply by Krishna consciousness.
Purport to Bhagavad-gita, chapter 8,verse 28
by A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada,
In those six chapters, again the four verses from the tenth chapter are the essence of Bhagavad-gita, and they are thus called the catuh-sloki Gita. They remove the distress of all living beings and bring about all auspiciousness.
Verse 8 to 11
I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts.
The thoughts of My pure devotees dwell in Me, their lives are fully devoted to My service, and they derive great satisfaction and bliss from always enlightening one another and conversing about Me.
To those who are constantly devoted to serving Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me.
To show them special mercy, I, dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance.

The utlimate essence of the Gita is love of God.
The really ultimate essence of the Bhagavad Gita is the love relationship with the Supreme Being from whom we are part and parcel spiritual sparks.
"That very ancient science of the relationship with the Supreme is today told by Me to you because you are My devotee as well as My friend and can therefore understand the transcendental mystery of this science."
Bhagavad Gita As It Is 4.3
Karma, guna, and etc are topics summarized in the Gita as external and the beginning rungs in understanding the Absolute Truth. We eventually advance to Dharma and our Dharma eventually qualifies us for Yoga. The ultimate goal of both dharma and yoga are the same and that is Bhagavat Dharma, Sanatana Dharma, Bhakti Yoga, or simply Love of God.
In the beginning stages of understanding God we must first rise to the level of believing there is life on the eternal platform and that there is a Supreme Being. We must then realize fear of God. Then there is surrender to God. Through the same process of achieving the faith to understand the above mentioned - one also achieves the faith to understand the concept of Love for God.
The process to achieve faith is association with advanced spiritual aspirants either in person or through their teachings. One should accept at least a diksa guru and if possible siksa gurus. This is the process for achieving the faith necessary to accept the existence of life on the eternal platform. That is the first rung of understanding the Absolute.
"Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the truth."

In life your actions ought to be what you are made for- your karma.
Do not ask what is right or wrong, just do what you ought to do.
Arjuna was struggling the concept of going to war with his brothers n Krishna told him that it is OK to kill his brothers as it was the karma of Arjuna, as a Ksatriya, to fight... fullstop, do not ask it is right or wrong.
