This is a popular one if you like DLP... although I personally prefer LCD... DLP is very popular and has really good black levels.

Not sure if you can afford one, but my best suggestions is to go with a CRT projector. They range anywhere between $20,000 to $70,000 I have a Sony. Costed $47,000 back in 1996. They're more for industrial use, but can be used to see 3D movies, and the newer ones are compatible with HDTV and a bunch of other features. They are far way better than DLP and LCD projectors.

It really depends on your price range, and your needs. If you are looking for a decent 1080i projector, then I would recommend the Viewsonic top end model. I believe it is the 1172J. Personally I would opt for a 1080p model that is bright enough for me to use in a room without having to completel block out all traces of light from my window!

I just purchased one and to save a lot of time, forget all the websites that offer price thats too good to be true.
I purchased a Panasonic PT 900AU at buydig.com. They had the best price by far...great service...no bait and switch. Shipped promptly. If you want to see a review on projector go to www. Audioholics.com ; go to Hone theater Recs and link to high end.
Good luck

It all depends what you mean by BEST. How much money is best price for you? What do you want to do with it? TV/films/Games, also where do you want it? what will you be projecting on?
LCD 1080p ~5000$:
Panasonic PT-AE1000U
Mitsubishi HC5000BL
Sony VPL-VW50
DLP 1080p ~5000$:
Optoma HD81
BenQ W10000
CRT 16,000-60,000$:
CrystalView Projectors (see link)
http://www.hometheaterplus.com/crvidlpcrtpr.html
Or for best price (~1500$) I would go with a 720p:
Sanyo PLV-Z5
Mitsubishi HD1000U
Panasonic PT-AX100U

You need the "INFOCUS" brand...The "ScreenPlay 4805" is about $700...Click here to see it: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/InFocus-ScreenPlay-Entertainment-Projector-SP-4805/sem/rpsm/oid/113968/catOid/-13322/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
It doesn't have HDMI but you ONLY need that if you have an HD-DVD (or Blu-ray) player...They run at TWICE the picture quality of Hi-Def (1920 x 1080)...And if you DID have one of those players you would want a PROJECTOR that could display "1920 x 1080" or "1080p"...Those cost a lot.
And I know, I know...If you have an UP-CONVERSION DVD player you'll need an HDMI to run "1080i" but I'm telling you - You won't need an "up-converting" DVD player with THIS projector...It has its OWN built-in "up-converter" that's second to none.
